Carolyn P. Espey:
Carolyn P. Espey’s practice emphasizes estate planning, trust administration and probate matters. Ms. Espey’s goal as an attorney is to provide her clients with friendly, down-to-earth and practical legal assistance.

Ms. Espey obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1991. After working as a chef and traveling extensively in the United States, Ms. Espey decided to return to California in 1997, so she could attend law school and join her father, Fred C. Espey, in his San Francisco law practice. Ms. Espey attended night school at Empire College School of Law in Santa Rosa, Calif., and graduated magna cum laude in May 2001. She was admitted to the California State Bar in December 2001.
While attending law school, Ms. Espey worked as a law clerk for the Sonoma County Public Defender from November 1998 until November 2001. Ms. Espey also worked with her father in his law office in San Francisco from 1997 until she started her practice as an attorney. Ms. Espey has received numerous academic awards, including the Corpus Juris Secundum Award for Scholastic Excellence in Criminal Law, 1997-1998; the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Community Property, Summer 2000; the West Group Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Award for scholastic year 2000-2001; the California State Assembly Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, May 2001; and the California State Senate Certificate of Recognition in Honor of Outstanding Scholastic Achievement, May 2001.

Janet M. Espey:
Janet M. Espey has practiced in the areas of estate planning, trust law, and probate since her admission to the California State Bar in December 2004. In assisting clients, Ms. Espey works to carefully ascertain her client’s needs and concerns and to anticipate and resolve potential problems.

Ms. Espey was born and raised in San Francisco, and is a graduate of Washington High School. Ms. Espey received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theater Arts from University of California, Santa Cruz. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Ms. Espey explored a number of fields and became very interested in estate planning, working for a number of years as an estate planning paralegal in downtown San Francisco.
Ms. Espey attended the University of California Hastings College of the Law from 2001-2004. While at Hastings, she externed with the San Francisco Probate Court, she was a summer intern at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, and she worked as a law clerk for her father, Fred C. Espey, and her sister Carolyn Espey. Ms. Espey received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Spring, 2004 for her work in the UC Hastings Estate Planning Seminar.

After admission to the bar, Ms. Espey worked as an associate attorney in the areas of estate planning, conservatorships, trust and estate administration, and litigation related to the same. In 2008, Ms. Espey joined her sister Carolyn to form Espey Law Offices.

Ms. Espey serves on the board of directors for the People With Disabilities Foundation.  She taught the Wills and Trusts course for the San Francisco State University Paralegal Studies Program in 2018 and 2020. She co-taught the Estate Planning Seminar at San Francisco Law School in 2008 and 2009 with Carolyn Espey.
